Choosing My Battles

I’ve been doing my best to listen to my body. Not push myself. Be restful. Slothful even. Because that’s what this little peanut inside of me has been asking for. However, I still have a little toddler who is not feeling quite as “restful” as his Momma. Mornings are the worst. I have the least energy and the room seems to be spinning most of the time. But Lil W…Lil W is rearing to go in the early morning hours. Full of energy. Eager to {…Read More…}

Tis the Season

Personalized heart ornament c/o: Lisa Leonard Designs   We ordered a pizza. Brewed some hot chocolate. Turned on the Pandora Holiday station. Hung the stockings by the chimney with care. Taught Lil W to say “Cwistmwas tree. Watched him take down the ornaments faster than we could put them up. Got excited for his increased understanding about this special holiday. Watched an episode of Parenthood on Netflix. Said our prayers. And then hit the hay. What are your holiday traditions? We’re looking to take on a few {…Read More…}

Three Days of Halloween

baby fireman costume

{Amy, Me, Katie, Brooke} {Me, Megan, Kim, Amy} Lil W was a skeleton fireman for Halloween–don’t ask. I was a last minute astronaut–again, don’t ask. And this year, Halloween was three days long. Starting with a preschool parade one day, followed by a church trunk or treat another day and ending with a traditional trip around the neighborhood on Halloween day. It’s possible that he was the only toddler still trick or treating at 9:00 pm.  But that’s how my kid rolls–night owl. On another note…is {…Read More…}

WIW: Last Minute Costume

880's side pony tail

What do you do when you realize the invite to your dinner party that night says “wear a costume”, and you don’t have one? Well, if you’re like me, then you go to your closet and realize that quite a bit of what you see is reminiscent of a particular decade. So why not make the most of that super sweet shoulder padded bolero, bust out your favorite side pony tail and clip on those radical dangle earrings–ta da! You’ve got yourself a costume. And yes, while {…Read More…}

The Apple Farm

Apple Farm Lobby

 Yesterday we took a very impromptu trip to San Luis Obispo and stayed a night at the Apple Farm. It’s been on my “list” of places to go for a while now.  We had a fabulous kid-free evening away. We went to bed early, slept in until 7:30, had lunch with new friends, took deep breaths through our meals and were rid of Sesame Street for an entire 24 hours. Quaint, colorful, personal, relaxing and a gift shop that I could spend hours in–best way to {…Read More…}

Dwindling Summer

DSC_0778.JPG

It’s September. More than half way through September, in fact. And is it just me, or has this been the fastest Summer in the history of…ever? While Fall is by far my favorite season, there is much I will miss about our simple Summer evenings. WWW: What We Wore to Dinner in Yosemite

DSC_0632.JPG

So Yosemite isn’t the fanciest of places, which was part of the charm and contributed to the completely relaxed feel of our vacation. However, one night we reserved a spot at the “fancy-schmancy” restaurant at the Ahwahnee Hotel. There was a “dress code” but the hubs and I didn’t want to be over dressed for our laid back vacation. So we went khaki casual. Shirt: Guess, Pants: Gap, Sandals: Rainbows, Dimples: Built In Shirt, Skirt, Belt: Old Navy, Shoes: Aerosoles, Necklace: Forever 21 Benny’s dimples were in full bloom that {…Read More…}

Yosemite Family Vacation

DSC_0437.JPG

When I was a kid I wore work boots, a pony tail and overalls nearly every day. I collected pocket knives, held a sling shot in my back pocket and had a toy bow and arrow. My afternoons were spent catching lizards and frogs, poking horned toads with sticks and chasing down my pet chicken, Scruffy. I built forts, dug holes and got dirty. I even touched bugs. It’s safe to say I was a bit of a tomboy, a tomboy who loved the outdoors. Flashforward {…Read More…}

Little Things, like dirt and pot stickers

ventura county farmers market

For a variety of reasons that don’t matter in hind sight, I was a total grouch this week. So I decided on an outing that always succeeds in turning my frown upside down. Ring Ring. Ben: Hey babe Me: Do you think you could get off work a bit early today? Lil W just woke up and I want to “get my produce on” at the Farmers Market before it closes. Ben: Kettle Corn and pot stickers…I’ll be home in five. So the hubs, crazy {…Read More…}

Unexpected Adventure

Sometimes I have one of those days where its harder to get things done. My mind wanders, I’m not as effective, I forget why I walked into the room. And then, sometimes one of those days turns into one of those weeks. Like this week. As hard as I tried, everything I did seemed to take 3 times longer than it should have. I used to get down on myself when I had days like these. But after two years of motherhood, I’ve learned that this {…Read More…}

Ski Ball, Baby W Style

These pictures are merely one of a million reasons why you never turn your back on your kid for one.single.second while enduring a trip to Chucke Cheese.

Mother’s Day Trend

My second Mother’s Day was perfect and simple. Simply perfect. We enjoyed a touching morning at church followed by a trip to the beach to visit my Momma, Baby W’s grandma. We spent last Mother’s Day at the beach too. And while so much has changed, everything is still the same. See what I mean: THIS year. LAST year. THIS year. LAST year. {the naked lady in the background thought Baby W was cute} THIS year. LAST year. How did you spend your day?

Happy Momma’s Day to my Wife {love Hubby and Baby W}

Dear Wifey, I’m taking over your blog today as big-mr-dad (get it?)because afterall, you shouldn’t have to post something on mother’s day…right? First,  I want to say Happy Mother’s day to the LMM readers and say thank you.  I am continually impressed with mommy bloggers as I have also become quite entertained from reading some of your blogs and nearly all of the comments you leave on LMM.  Ashley pours her heart and soul into raising our son and feels equally passionate about sharing her experiences of mommyhood.  Comments have {…Read More…}

Our Simple Easter Highlights

Why Hello Easter. We sure had fun yesterday, didn’t we. Good food, good friends, good family, good times. Because I have an awesome family, who always picks up my slack, Easter was “delivered” to my home this year. In other words, Easter was potluck style. From the appetizers, the main course even down to the the decorations. I just had to make sure my home was clean. …somewhat clean, at least. A few of the day’s highlights: #1. My Auntie Debbie’s Woman’s Day Magazine inspired Peeps {…Read More…}
